CIPA

What it is

The Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) is a Federal law addressing concerns about access to offensive content over the Internet on school and library computers. CIPA applies to all libraries and K-12 schools using E-Rate discounts on Internet access and internal connections and requires the purchase and use of a “technology protection measure” on every computer connected to the Internet.

Cloudlock

CloudLock Can Help

CloudLock’s cloud security solution helps K-12 institutions achieve CIPA compliance by:

  • Detecting and protecting all personal records and any information deemed harmful or offensive
  • Preventing inappropriate sharing of such information
  • Reviewing internally created documents to verify no bullying or other unauthorized activities are happening
  • Staying on top of information that minors are sharing internally and externally

Take, for example, all the IEP documents (Individual Education Plan). The school owns hundreds of these documents, and each one contains sensitive and private information about each student participating in this program. It’s key that we have the visibility and control to make sure these documents comply with privacy regulations.
