We’ve just launched our latest cloud cybersecurity report, this time focusing on security concerns and practices across eight distinct industries. The data scientists in our cyberlab extrapolated meaningful cloud cybersecurity insights from an expansive data set, including 10 million users, 91,000 cloud applications, and the one billion files we monitor on a daily basis. Data shows there are some shared concerns across all organizations, but perhaps most shocking were the differences between some of them.

Common Cloud Cybersecurity Concerns

Regardless of industry, organizations share five cloud cybersecurity concerns:

  • Account Compromise
It is not uncommon for enterprises to encounter fifteen or more compromised accounts on a daily basis. Detecting and preventing these breaches is essential.
  • Cloud MalwareScreen Shot 2015-12-09 at 8.49.01 AM
Cybercriminals can hijack accounts and exfiltrate information through malicious or compromised apps. It is crucial for organizations to identify and control cloud apps used by corporate users.
  • Excessive Data Exposure
Given the high volume of sensitive data many organizations store within cloud environments, businesses must control where such sensitive information resides and with whom it is shared.
  • Over-Exposed PII and PCI Data
As organizations standardize on and adopt cloud technologies, ensuring internal or government-mandated regulations are adhered to is key.
  • Collaboration
Organizations are looking to ensure they are gaining maximum return-on-investment from cloud technologies while preserving the integrity of their security efforts.

Some Shocking Statistics

Our report is full of interesting findings, and you’ll have to read more to get the whole picture. But, here are a few tidbits:

  • Only 5% of all organizations take active steps towards protecting credentials
  • In Financial Services, 1% of users are responsible for 99% of public data exposures
  • Only 10% of Tech organizations are concerned with PII, versus a cross-industry average of 60%
  • Only 30% of Healthcare organizations have a strong focus on protecting PCI data
