Columbia University is a private ivy league university located in New York City with over 2,700 full-time faculty members and 69 academic departments. They have partnered with CloudLock to boost productivity and strengthen their cybersecurity arsenal. Here’s what Joel Rosenblatt, Columbia’s Director of Computer and Network Security, had to say:

A big piece of my job is just finding stuff before the bad guys find it. CloudLock was really the only product I found that allowed me to find out what’s there and control it. I am responsible for overall computer security for the entire university. At this time there’s about 150,000 nodes on our network, and 80,000 active email accounts; it’s a fairly large environment.

My biggest challenge in security is people. I have an expression I use, which is, “you can’t stop stupid, but you can slow it down.” I view my job as slowing down stupid. We discovered that once you move your data into the cloud you have no control over it anymore. We started looking for solutions to help us analyze the data in the cloud and that’s when we came upon CloudLock.

It costs us about $195 for each social security number that gets exposed. You lose a file with 100,000 social security numbers and you’re talking some serious money there. CloudLock lets us find those files before the bad guys find them.
